This brings back so many memories. My grandparents had one very similar, and now I can truly appreciate something like this. When I was little I laughed because I could just bend down and scramble to get whatever needed to be got or climb up any counter to get to the top. Now, I have kids, and they are always constantly dropping things (or throwing as I suspect) to where they are just out of reach from my arm under their cribs. This has helped me out so many times in the short time I've had this, I'm able to reach binkies and toys underneath places that I used to have to contort (in a very painful manner) to reach. This is also great for putting things that I want to get out of their reach away, for now I don't have vertical climbing monkeys, only horizontal travelers. I can't look at this without thinking of my grandparents though, of my grandma's smile and my grandpa's kind gruffness. So not only this is a very useful and practical tool that I suggest everyone have, for me, it is also a way to bring up very poignant memories.
