I love the fact that this is completely mechanical, that I don't have to use a single battery for this. So many toys, especially ones that have movement that is caused by something inside them, need batteries. This one relies on mechanical gears working together, much like the little hop toys that I used to play with.
The dump truck's dumping action is completely automatic, all you have to do is flip a little switch on the driver's side, and the dump truck will immediately start the dumping motion. When you are done dumping the contents of the dump truck, there is a lip on the end so you can push it down. The back of the dump truck easily swivels, so you don't have to worry about it not swinging open when you're trying to dump it. I have noticed though, that filling this too full will cause the back door to swing open if you're not careful. although that aspect seems to tickle the twins to no end. But, I could see an older child easily getting frustrated with it.
The toy is entirely well-built, it is one that can, and has, withstood my twins' full force. The bright colors keep drawing them in too, so there is that.

This is a completely mechanical toy, one that requires a big fat zero amount of batteries. It still has motions and whirring noise is not one you get with an electronic jingle. It's brightly colored to attract attention, yet it is sturdy enough to withstand it. I highly recommend it.
